Exercising your way out of stress
Lives these days have become extremely stressful because of the amount of burden we carry every day. This is especially true for a socioeconomically stable Indian household’s main earner who is responsible for the smooth functioning of the entire house. This includes paying the bills, managing the other expenses, and earning enough to fulfill the requirements and needs of each family member. due to this, stress levels are increasing and leading to a sharp increase in mental problems like anxiety, depression, and stress. Dr. Sanjay Prem, a motivational speaker and corporate trainer encourages everyone to exercise their way out of stress! He believes that exercise and stress relief go hand in hand, and that physical activity is the best way to stay happy, energized and stress-free.
How does physical activity effect your brain?
When you exercise, your brain releases a chemical known as Endorphin. This chemical interacts with the receptors in your brain. Endorphin is actually very similar to Morphine: It is responsible for infusing positive energy in the body. For example, let’s take the sensation that you feel after a couple of rounds of brisk running. It is typically known as a “runners high”, which is experienced solely by Endorphin. However, unlike Morphine, it is not addictive, and does not have any side effects. So, you see, how stress is directly related to how you feel, and what you do!
Best exercises for stress relief
There are many forms of exercises where you can physically challenge your body, which includes Running, stretching, Yoga, going to a gym, etc. and they can all be put into the stress relief exercises category. It is one’s individual choice in selecting which way to keep their body healthy.
Enrolling in a decent gym is the ideal way to keep the body healthy, as it includes a combination of various exercises such as cardio, aerobics, and weightlifting. It provides a single integrated platform for almost all physical exercises. One can also have the option of working out irrespective of the atmosphere outside. However, there can be some people who might just prefer to exercise outdoors, and be closer to nature. For them, running, or walking is the best cardio exercise that would help in maintaining active mind and body.
Indulging in sports activity is another way of to get fit, and remain stress-free. Since it allows one to be active, and at the same time learn a new skill. This will Enrich your mind, and keep you more focused in any task that you perform. No matter what form of exercise or physical activity you choose to go for, just make sure that you remain consistent, and are able to extract maximum benefits from that.
Food intake
What else do you think you need after having a good session of exercise? Balanced diet! Let’s take an analogy- cars that we see on the roads operate on gas, but when they run out of fuel, they stop working. Similarly, for our body, if we do not give required fuel, that is nutritional food in case of humans, then the body wouldn’t be able to sustain.
The kind of food that you eat also has an impact on your personality! Some foods are notorious for making you angry and irritable, while some make you feel calm and relaxed. But our main purpose here, is to make sure that we have a diet that is well-balanced, and wholesome.
Our body mainly gets energy from three supplements that are carbs, fats, and proteins. The right amount of these three supplements will help create a healthy and a balanced diet. For the people who are vegetarians need to be more specific about diet along with exercise, because there is a deficiency of protein in the vegetarian diet. They need to take extra care and understand the short-comings of a vegetarian diet and concisely design their meal adding sufficient amount of protein supplements.
The lifestyle of humans is never going to be the same, it will be more stressful and tedious in the days to come, so finding time for yourself and your health is becoming crucial. Take a step off from your stressful routine, recreate a bit, find time for yourself, exercise and stay fit.
